PSA

Childhood obesity is a rising problem on America. Over the past several years the amount of children that are overweight or obese has increased dramatically. According to the center for disease control;
  • Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years.
  • The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 20% in 2008. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to 18% over the same period.
  • In 2008, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese
My solution to childhood obesity is incorporating homeless animals with the children. Studies show that children that have a pet such as a cat or dog are less likely to become obese. Part of the reason is due to the fact that the children will become more active when they get their new pet. I am going to host a community fair that will inform people on my solution and give them the opportunity to practice it. People need to understand the problem that childhood obesity has on so many children and that something needs to be done about it.

Triple Bottom Line

People, Environment, and Economics; These three words are known as the triple bottom line for Richland College. My project will affect people because it will introduce new ways to become healthy. My project will also help the environment because it will reduce the amount of stray animals that are wandering around. Also my project will benefit economically by teaching people how to have a pet on a budget, also reducing the risk for obesity reduces the amount of money people have to spend on healthcare.
